From strangers to forever
Gavin and Maddie's story begins as all great love stories do, with some classic family connection. Gavin and his sister Bret were scrolling through his Mutual account together when Maddie popped up. Bret wasted no time texting her best friend Bree, who just so happens to be Maddie's little sister, and Bree nudged Maddie to go find him.
Gavin, having an itch to play pickleball and finding his mom and sister to be unworthy opponents, suggested that they play. So they found themselves in a very intense pickleball match (Maddie lost terribly) and spent the day after that playing Call of Duty Zombies together. Two days, and something just clicked.
You would think that once Maddie flew back to school in Utah, that would be the end of it. A month went by, and then suddenly there was rarely a day where the two of them didn't spend hours texting, calling, and FaceTiming. Then came the trips, Houston to Provo, Provo to Houston, and every possible second spent together.
Eight months after two little sisters played matchmaker, Gavin and Maddie got engaged. It'll probably be a few years before Bret and Bree let them forget it.

To know Maddie is to absolutely adore Maddie.
My family has moved every three years of my life, and because of that, there haven't been many things in my life that have stayed completely constant. But Maddie is one of the very few people who has been there through every chapter. And when you only have a few consistencies in your life, you learn just how precious they are. We met when I was in 6th grade, and have never let go of what the little 11 year olds held on so tightly to. We have celebrated the tiniest wins together, cheered each other on through massive accomplishments, grieved together, grown together, and at some points in our lives, we really only had each other. We lived 3000+ miles apart from each other for years, and we were never too far apart to be a priority to each other.
We've gotten to see each other through so many different stages of life: growing up, becoming adults, figuring out who we are, and now, somehow, we get to walk through marriage together, too. When I think about all of the memories we've made and all of the life we still have ahead of us, I just feel incredibly grateful for us, and for every second we've been given together.
And Gavin, you are so lucky to have Maddie. You get to experience firsthand the unwavering love and support that I have been lucky enough to know for so many years. But Maddie is just as lucky to have you. She is so deserving of the unconditional love, kindness, and support that you give her so freely.
Mads, I love you more than I could ever put into words. I'm so grateful that God gave me a best friend who became a sister, and I'm even more grateful that I get to continue to stand by you in every new stage of life. It is seriously one of the greatest privileges.
Maddie and Gavin, marriage is the best chapter ever. I hope it's filled with the same love, laughter, loyalty, and unwavering support that has made Maddie such a special part of my life. I love you both so so dearly, more than I could ever say.
Over the years my relationship with our handsome groom has grown from strangers, to friends, to someone I'd gratefully call a brother. Gavin, I can't believe the day has finally come that someone was able to not only tame, but match your wild and energetic side. It feels like it was just yesterday we were spending time with our friends in the Sawmill Parking Lot doing cartwheels then going back to your place to Just Dance our hearts out upstairs in your movie room. You've always had this upbeat, jolly nature paired with your sense of adventure that you've taken with you across the world to spread and share with people of different cultures and perspectives. I'm so proud to have had the opportunity to witness your growth as a man and to be able to call someone as great as you a friend.
As for our beautiful bride Maddie, I may not have known you for as long or as well as I have Gavin, but I can tell one thing for certain: you definitely have your hands full with him now, good luck. But seriously, there is certainly no person in the world more capable of putting a smile on Gavin's face than yourself. It's genuinely contagious how giggly and joyful you two are when you're together, always with a big full-teeth smile plastered on y'all's faces. Thank you. I am truly grateful for the light you are in Gavin's life.
I'm so excited to see where life takes our strongest, most loving power couple. Maddie, thank you so much for making Gavin the happiest man in the world, and Gavin, thank you for letting me share a piece of this wonderful world with you. I'm so excited to see where life will take you both.
Growing up, Maddie always used to guilt me and our other siblings into doing favors for her. I'm so grateful she's marrying Gavin because now she has someone else to guilt into doing favors! But in all seriousness, having Maddie as a big sister is the absolute best, and has blessed my life in so many ways. Her perseverance, dedication, and love has inspired me my entire life.
I've always looked up to Maddie. I remember when she would clean out her room and give me the things she didn't want anymore I would get SO excited because it made me feel more like her. I also have a vivid memory of sitting in the hallway next to her bedroom door listening to her talk to her friends or film videos and tell stories and feeling like I had the coolest older sister in the world. Another fond memory was when she used to put on puppet shows for me and Bree. When we were younger and couldn't sleep, Maddie would come into our room to put on a puppet show to make us laugh.
Maddie was and still is always looking for ways to make her siblings feel loved and happy, and has done the best job at being an older sister. I have loved every moment of growing up with Maddie: the laughs, the fights, the smiles, the tears, all of it. And Gavin, I hope you know how lucky of a guy you are. Maddie's the best! It's pretty cool to see y'all's relationship grow, and I love how it seems like you've known each other forever. I love you guys both so much and can't wait to see what God has in store for y'all!
In all honesty, I don't know Maddie well since I wasn't around while she and Gavin were dating. But I do know Gavin is wise. Everyone knows that Gavin has always been good at making friends, but more specifically I've learned he's good at making the kind of friends that bring out the best in himself. So if that's how Gavin is with choosing his friends, I know he's sure to do ten times better with choosing Maddie to be the girl he marries. Seeing how happy, grounded, and sharp he is around Maddie tells me everything I need to know about the incredible person she is. Congratulations to you both!
Growing up with Maddie as my older sister has been one of the greatest constant blessings in my life. Throughout my life I've looked to her past examples to make decisions and even model myself after. I'm sure anyone with a sister has had "imitation is the best form of flattery" quoted to them when their younger sister suddenly is copying outfits, hairstyles, and even interests, and Maddie certainly has heard that as well. I would (and still do...) brag about her any chance I got. She has an attitude that opens up a world of experiences and it's one of the things I've tried most to adapt into my own life. I've always looked to her for protection, advice, and a role model.
Maddie, you have such a big heart and so much love to give. Seeing Gavin give you the same amount of love you do has made me so happy. I see how much you care about each other in every little thing you do and truly believe that you're made for each other. I can't wait to see how your relationship grows. Gavin, thank you for loving my sister as much as I do. Congratulations!
What's up my brotha!! I'm so happy for you and Maddie, you guys seem so happy together and she seems like she motivates you to be a better man. I look up to you and it's wild I'm about to be your brother soon! But we have always been brothers. I'm so happy for you both and I can't wait to make even more memories with you both. Love y'all!!
